Three Thrifty Thanksgiving Treats
Thanksgiving is well on it’s way to making its presence known throughout the nation and today I’m going to give you three great recipes to make at home that you’ve never made before that will have everyone asking you to make it next year.
I picked three recipes because the title would is fun and I like to keep it short and sweet. This post, my friends, is definitely in the sweet department!
For starters we have Pumpkin Chocolate Dessert Cake found on AllRecipes.com….

* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 3/4 cup butter

* 1/3 cup applesauce
* 3 eggs, beaten
* 1/2 cup heavy cream
* 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin
*
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 1/2 cup butter
* 1/3 cup heavy cream

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9 inch Bundt pan.
2. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder and baking soda. In a large bowl, beat together 3/4 cup butter, 2 cups sugar, applesauce, and eggs. Mix in 1/2 cup heavy cream and pumpkin. Stir into the flour mixture just until blended. Spread evenly in the prepared pan.
3. Bake 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan over a wire rack. Invert cake onto a serving plate.
4. Place the brown sugar, 1/2 cup butter, and 1/3 cup heavy cream in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil while stirring to blend until smooth. Cook until sugar is dissolved. Whisk in the confectioner’s sugar, and drizzle over the cake immediately.
This next brownie recipe looks really good. I have to admit I am a terrible cook, I can do a few things and thankfully the few I do are good but that’s just because I’ve had a lot of practice with those few things, lol. I like the idea of our next recipe…fairytale brownies? Yes I’ll have some thank you…

Finally we have a delicious Cranberry Trifle
“….What to do with cranberry sauce? Make this easy and delicious trifle, of course!”
Ths trifle is so special you can make it for company, but I think it’s a great treat for your family over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. You can have it with some tea or cocoa when you come back from Christmas shopping or decorating the house, and it’s even great for breakfast!
Cranberry Trifle* 2 cups cranberry sauce
* 3/4 cup sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
* 1 cup white chocolate chips
* 2 cups heavy whipping cream
* 1/4 cup powdered sugar
* 1-1/2 cups chopped semisweet chocolate chips
* 1 angel food cake
* 1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
* 1/2 cup grated white chocolateNote: You can use whole berry cranberry sauce, or the gelled kind in this recipe. For the whole berry sauce, just combine it with the sugar. For the gelled kind, break it up with a fork and melt slowly in the saucepan, then add sugar.
In medium saucepan, combine cranberry sauce, 3/4 cup sugar, and vanilla. Heat slowly, stirring frequently, over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Set aside to cool.
In large microwave safe bowl, combine 1 cup white chocolate chips with 3/4 cup heavy cream. Microwave on low for 1 minute, then remove and stir. Microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Chill in the refrigerator until cold, about 30 minutes. Add remaining whipping cream and powdered sugar to the melted chip mixture; beat until stiff peaks form.
Cut angel food cake into 2″ squares. In a large bowl (preferably glass to see the layers), layer cake, cranberry sauce, whipped cream mixture, chopped chocolate, and pecans. Continue layering until all ingredients are used. Sprinkle grated white chocolate over all; cover and chill for at least 4 hours. Serves 12
So that’s that, three recipes that you want to go make right now don’t you?
Well, I do, lol. I hope these recipes make you the talk of the family, they won’t be asking you to bring rolls anymore that’s for sure!
