So did you hear?

The Rich Jerk is trying to sell off his empire to save himself from being a Poor Jerk, and trying to make a profit in the meantime!

Does that qualify as irony? For years I’ve seen the ads on the sides of the page or in the middle of various blogs and websites for various things he’s selling. The book, the e-book, some new program recently, all the while with that cocky sarcastic way of enticing me to click, because I’m cocky too and I can appreciate that level of confidence - not to be mistaken for false bravado.

So of course I’m going to click that ad that says, you’re stupid if you don’t click this ad and find out what I’m talking about, and if you got this email and you don’t buy my product you’re too stupid anyways, etc. That’s the gist anyway of the multiple insulting ads I’ve seen over the years. More than a few times I caught myself about to buy the book… :)

Clever marketer that that Rich Jerk is. But that’s what it comes down to, now the truth is out and we know the Rich Jerk could not exist on ads alone.

Gone are the days of the abrasive email proclaiming a new way to make money, a better way to make money, one that’s not so dependent on customer service.

So why does this matter to you? Because you might’ve clicked on an ad or two for the book, heck you may have even bought the book. But this in it’s own way proves what I’ve always believed is true in business, you can be as cocky as you want to be, because it isn’t bragging if you can back it up.

Sales is just that, sales. It isn’t a business until you can make it work for you, instead of you working for it.
